Project description
We work with the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre (MNFC) — the service hub for the urban Indigenous community in Kjipuktuk / Halifax, located in Mi’kma’ki / Nova Scotia — to advance community-driven initiatives that address housing, economic development, and socio-cultural needs through research, funding support, and advocacy.
Recent Projects
Our team has worked on a range of impactful projects with the MNFC, including:
Award-winning shelter development: A feasibility study that resulted in the creation of a shelter with wrap-around supports to transition clients to independent living.
Comprehensive business plans: Business plans that have supported housing developments, a culturally inclusive medical clinic, tourism ventures, culinary experiences, and more to improve socio-economic outcomes for the urban Indigenous community.
Strategic partnerships: Collaborating with Indigenous home builders.
Targeted advocacy: Developing funding cases and advocacy efforts for urban Indigenous women, children, and families experiencing homelessness; elders; and youth transitioning from foster care.
Feasibility studies: Addressing critical issues such as homelessness and affordable daycare.
Socioeconomic impact analyses: Evaluating the effects of housing initiatives on community members in crisis situations.
Project management and communications: Supporting the development of MNFC's new headquarters with funding application support, advocacy, and communication services.
Funding support messaging: Crafting key messages and value propositions to strengthen funding applications for housing and community projects.
Each of these studies included background research, cost analysis, and community and stakeholder engagement to ensure planning aligns with the needs, aspirations, and cultural considerations of the community.
