Project description
Located in northern Labrador, Nunatsiavut is homeland of the Labrador Inuit, including five Inuit Community Governments. The Nunatsiavut Government (NG) is self-governing, operating under the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement and Labrador Inuit Constitution.
In the face of escalating climate change, the Nunatsiavut Climate Change Strategy charts a path that not only addresses the ecological and environmental challenges specific to northern regions but also preserves and integrates the rich cultural heritage of the Inuit people.
The NG hired 21FSP to develop a Climate Change Strategy. Our work involved several key tasks, including extensive climate data analysis and thorough background research on climate change adaptation strategies. Engaging with community members to gather input and feedback was crucial. We collaboratively conducted public consultations to ensure the strategy reflected the needs and values of the Inuit people, and facilitated working sessions with other key stakeholders in validating the strategy. We also developed a detailed implementation plan and provided ongoing support and guidance throughout the implementation phase.
In integrating scientific analysis with community wisdom and participation, the Nunatsiavut Climate Change Strategy aims to create a sustainable and resilient future for all inhabitants of this region.
